Staff

Add or remove people, change their role, %, which shift types they can work, and their carried balance. Roles: boss (off-floor), supervisor, floor. A floor person is scheduled automatically — unless you fill in their Pattern, in which case that fixed pattern is copied and repeated (add the word 'fill' to the pattern to also auto-schedule their remaining days, e.g. weekends fixed, weekdays filled). In Pattern, the number is the day of the fortnight: 1=Mon, 2=Tue … 7=Sun, 8=next Mon … 14=next Sun; it repeats every 14 days. The 11th–10th window only affects the balance, not the pattern. Wknd = the fortnight weekend-days a person works, e.g. 6,7 (Sat+Sun of week 1) or 13,14 (week 2); leave blank to auto-alternate.

Period

Count +/- from to
Fortnight counts from
The timetable starts on the Monday of the “from” week and shows enough weeks to cover “to”.
Leave “fortnight counts from” alone once it is set. It is the fixed Monday that day 1 of every pattern is measured from, so patterns and weekend groups stay in step when you move to the next month. Change it and everyone's fortnight shifts.
The date boxes above are drawn by your browser, so their order (day/month or month/day) follows your computer's country setting. Always check the spelled-out date shown beside each box — that one is the same on every computer.

Holiday

Holidays, single days off, or a temporary contract ending. Pick the actual dates — the generator won't schedule anyone during those dates.

Shift lengths

Change start/end times if shift lengths change. For Day and Evening you can list alternatives separated by commas — the first is the default the generator uses; the others become options you can switch to on any cell of the timetable.

Coverage — people needed per shift, per day

Set a different number on specific days (e.g. 5 on evenings for Friday and Tuesday). Night is always 1.

Hours & coefficients

Full-time hours and how evening/weekend/night hours convert to “normalized” hours for the balance math. The evening × is applied per hour, not per shift: only the hours from the cut-off onward earn it. Whatever the shift, only its hours past 17:00 are counted — so a short evening works out on its own, no special case needed. 16:00–22:00 = 1 plain + 5 × 1.05 = 6.25 · 16:00–21:00 = 1 plain + 4 × 1.05 = 5.20 · 14:00–22:00 = 3 plain + 5 × 1.05 = 8.25.

Red days (Icelandic public holidays) — comma-separated dates, e.g. 2026-12-25, 2026-12-26. On these, every hour counts at the red-day × — day and evening alike, and the whole shift, not just the part after 17:00. Night shifts keep the night × instead.

Structural rules

Everything the generator enforces, in one place. The switches are the rules you can turn off; below them are the ones that are always on, and the pay coefficients that decide who gets picked first.
Cover — who has to be on the floor
Rest — what protects the person
Weekends
Always on — not switchable
  • A fixed pattern is copied exactly and repeats every 14 days. Pattern people are exempt from the streak, Friday and Monday rules above — their pattern is the agreement. Add fill to a pattern and their remaining days get auto-scheduled under the normal rules.
  • Nobody is scheduled during booked time off — holiday or temporary end, from the Time off tab.
  • Only shift types a person can work — the Day / Eve / Night chips — and never on a weekday they have blocked under “No day” or “No eve”.
  • Weekend groups are honoured. A person's Wknd days (e.g. 6,7 or 13,14) are the weekends they work; leave it blank and they auto-alternate between the two.
  • Daily cover comes from the Coverage table — a separate day and evening target per weekday. Night is always 1.
  • The boss is off-floor and never counts towards cover.
  • Whoever is furthest below their contracted hours is picked first, measured in normalized hours inside the pay window — so the rota and the balance stay in step.
Pay coefficients — set in “Hours & coefficients” above
  • Night ×1.20 for the whole shift, on any day — a night on a red day or a weekend is still just the night ×.
  • Red day ×1.05 for every hour, day or evening alike, and the whole shift — not only the part after 17:00.
  • Weekend ×1.05 for every hour, the same way.
  • Evening ×1.05 on the hours from 17:00 onward, not on the whole shift, on an ordinary weekday. Every evening loses its 16:00–17:00 hour from the ×, however long or short it is:
    • 16:00–22:00 → 1 plain + 5 × 1.05 = 6.25 (not 6.30)
    • 16:00–21:00 → 1 plain + 4 × 1.05 = 5.20 — the shortened evening the 11h-rest rule creates
    • 14:00–22:00 → 3 plain + 5 × 1.05 = 8.25
    • 17:00–22:00 → nothing to deduct, all 5 hours at 1.05 = 5.25
  • Balance band ±5h — inside that, a person reads as “on track”.

Closed months

Every month you close is kept here in full — the timetable, the hours audit, and the staff list and coefficients exactly as they were at the time. Nothing here is ever changed by later edits, so an old month always reprints the way it was agreed.
